Intersting Conversations....

haha it started out like this...

Lo Zhi Zhan I took 4 years to realise the other side of someone.

---------------------------------------------

Sunny Neo
other side? I thought you only realised he has no balls?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lo Zhi Zhan
He got no balls! Obviously. And he's from NUS! NUS UNIVERSITY SCHOLAR PROGRAMME SCHOLAR some more.

See the quality of our scholars!

Eh, should i post the hot conversation online?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rico Kaibin Lim
eh dun stereotype can ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lo Zhi Zhan
Sorry if i offended you, but i am not referring to you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Rico Kaibin Lim
haha joking la.. im not from NUS oso... LOLX
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rico Kaibin Lim
anyway scholars dun make better "humans" they are juz better at maybe studying ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lo Zhi Zhan
Hahaha. I just feel that as scholars, there should be good moral conduct. And as a scholar myself, i demand that of myself.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rico Kaibin Lim
I dunnoe before i was a "scholar" i already had the same moral values i have now... moral values shouldn't change no matter wat label u carry. I feel...

I mean lets say one day if everything falls apart does ur moral values change as well?

I only feel that these labels makes ppl more obligated to certain decisions...

Like a policeman is less likely to do something against the law as u might think? but that's is not necessary true
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lo Zhi Zhan
True. But then, as a policeman, you will be more likely to scrutinize your own actions, so that you will be a good example.

Of course, we always have to bring our moral values wherever we go, just tt when u represent something greater, i feel there is a need to be more careful than usual =)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rico Kaibin Lim
My apologies before you read this... all this are typed as a form of discussion nothing personal... im looking to find out the answers for myself as well..

I think I might have discussed this issue in one of my classes in school...

The example was we have laws and rules in our world "guide" us.

Usually laws and rules go with our "moral" values right?

but when u remove laws and rules high chance this world might go abit chaotic...

Because we removed the consequences of our actions we act differently.... the 2 sides of the arguments are for me

1. Ppl think less about consequences as there are fewer.

2.Ppl "original" mind was naturally "evil"

Just like ur point because we are representing something greater we have more consequences for our actions.

My question is does these extra consequences makes us have better moral values ?

Wouldn't you be a better "human" if you had the same moral values as a person who as more "consequences" than you?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rico Kaibin Lim
As for the police man part ... just like teachers i think the ideal teacher is to "teach" but i think many of todays teachers are there just because its good $...

just like the policeman could just be there for a job... or even national service.... i think ppl with certain moral standards will then scrutinize their own actions.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Lo Zhi Zhan
Hm, just off hand, i feel that people are originally self-centered.

I once heard this saying. There is only one crime in this world, and that is to steal. All crimes revolves around stealing. Like murder is to steal someone's right to live. And so on.

True, law and order make people think about and bear the true consequences of their actions.

Hm, i just feel that the mentioned consequences might make us review ourselves. Whether we make ourselves better or remain the same at the end of the day is what we make out of ourselves.

At the end of the day, humans are constantly being shaped. We are put in our consequences, and i believe that as part of life, this is an environment where we will grow.

=)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunny Neo
I think scholar or not. It's hard to assess a person real characters and values.

To be a scholar, you "just" have to score As, have good CCA positions/records and able to wayang through interviews (which can be prepared)

As long as the scholar uphold a good image or appear morally upright in front of the public, people can't really fault him/her for anything.

Don't talk about scholars, just look at politicians and leaders in certain countries, you get my drift :)

Of course, ZZ is just so pissed at the person that he's just ranting. hahaha. I always do that also!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rico Kaibin Lim
Zhi Zhan-->
yeah i read a little of the selfish gene... pardon me if i get tis interpretation wrong... up till now evolution only chooses the strongest genes to survive i think from gene wise we are already self centered

but on the other hand my lecturer told me of another book that discuss the likely hood of gene which holds the idea of Altruism in all living creatures.
Example would be bees, each type of bee work for the colony and have no self interest

Lo Zhi Zhan
I wan go sleep alr. Tml we continue this. Interesting.

You bees story sorts of relates to karl marx's idea of communism. However, communism is an idea which is said to be way ahead of our time. =)

Rico Kaibin Lim
the idea of communism has no problem at all. I just that the being using it that has the problem.

Hahah kinda long ... but i think its a very intersting thing to chat about.... hahahahahaha as he said ... we shall continue be prepared for a part 2...

Meaning of Words & Words of Meaning...

Love

Liefde
Amour
Liebe
Αγάπη
Amore

사랑
Amor
Влюбленность
Amor

Right above are 12 different languages of the same word according to babelfish. I you just see a string of "Влюбленность" Me not knowing russian would have just ignore this word ... but when u know the meaning of the word... u would visualize that word that meaning right ?

Like what the Indian guy in the train station said to NEO in The Matrix , Love is but a word its the meaning behind the word that makes it special.

But the question I asking myself today is that can words exist before the meaning of it?

I myself don't think it can....

I feel that words are just a tool for the visualization/communication of a feeling/meaning.

In this case I feel that words cannot exist be meaning. And Meaning is how all words exist, u might not understand Влюбленность means but you would understand the meaning if its shown to you. when you show a picture of a mother hugging her baby and smiling happily you might think of "LOVE" while Russians might think of "Влюбленность" but the Idea is the same both mean "LOVE" in different language... its the Idea/reason/logic that is universal.

Is it not ?

On A Serious Note... Here's the story of Shay

First of all I would like to thank Quan Hui for sending me the email, I'm rather touched by the story and would like to share this story with you all....

I hope you get your own meaning of the story. And we hope we can have a Shay day.

***** COPY & PASTING BEGINS HERE *****

Two Choices

What would you do?.....you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one.. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fund-raising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended.. After extolling the school and its

dedicated staff, he offered a question:

'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does, is done with perfection.

Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.

Where is the natural order of things in my son?'

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued... 'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.'

Then he told the following story:

Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball... Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.'

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.

In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again.

Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?

Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the

plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.

The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay.

As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over.

The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman.

Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates.

Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first!

Run to first!'

Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base.

He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!'

Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.

B y the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball . the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.

He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.

Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third!

Shay, run to third!'

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'

Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team

'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world'.

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

AND NOW A LITTLE FOOT NOTE TO THIS STORY:

We all send thousands of jokes through the e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages about life choices, people hesitate.

The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools and workplaces.

If you're thinking about forwarding this message, chances are that you're probably sorting out the people in your address book who aren't the 'appropriate' ones to receive this type of message Well, the person who sent you this believes that we all can make a difference.

We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the 'natural order of things.'

So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice:

Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process?

A wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it's least fortunate amongst them.

You now have two choices:

1. Delete

2. Forward

May your day, be a Shay Day

What is the world becoming to ?

OKAY I juz read an news article about 33 year old woman having reportedly had eight of her own previously frozen embryos implanted, despite already having six children under the age of eight, also reportedly conceived by in vitro fertilization.

Come on acting god is one thing... but acting so irresponsibly ...

She has 6 Children already... this procedure should be only given to those medically certified that they have problem conceiving children and are childless.

Is this moral ? She now has total of 14 Kids to take care of ? How is she suppose to feed them all ? I even if they are millionaires you still need to spend quality time with your kids ? can she manage all 14 ?

Not to mention conceiving so many children at once leads to premature birth as mentioned by the news article. Not to mention the possible side effects of premature birth to children ?

They might have just ruined the future of those children....

Saw this on someone's post..

''People are like stained-glass windows.
They sparkle and shine when the sun is out
but when the darkness sets in..
their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within. ''

People are all good and nice (sparkle and shine) when everything is good(sun out)
true beauty is only revealed only if there is a light from within....

This metaphor is trying to say that True beauty are not determine when everything on acting on it is good, rather that true beauty remains the same even in the absence of goodness on its surroundings, u will still be able the see the beauty of it from the light that is giving out... Notice that if u shine light on stain glass and you shine from inside to out.. more or less would have the same effect.

Fav Day Of The Week....

Why ? ? ? Because today's lesson a break from the usual numbers wires and electronics components, today is where there's is no right and wrong where the grey areas are you answers.

Problem statement :

What makes us us and them others ?

haha food for thought...

Remind me of a old poem i wrote ...

Living in a world separated by differences,
Yet we strive to make the differences similar,
The differences makes us similar,
Yet the similarities can make us different,
We yearn to be similar to feel belongingness,
Yet we want to be different to reach greatness,
Given these opposing nature humans are,
Maybe to help find the true meaning for life.

Humans are complicated.. thats all i can say...

Right Rico Signing off... Good Day everyone...

Lets hope Man Utd Win Tonight... :p Eh Joel... its not Ronaldo United... ok !

Last but not least... my bro after eating too much.... became like tis...

Vomit foam... haha... dun worry he be okay...

Anyway... today i did something I felt that has to be done, to help a friend.
But by helping seems like being a busy body.
Not helping seemed like I wasn't doing my part as a friend.
My personal philosophy is that as long a i have the power to something to help being it busy body anot... i would just help ...
So hope the person wont blame me bah...

2nd post of being human i guess

Pts To Ponder...
How do you differ between being busy body and being helpful... ?
How do you do something that is bad, because you feel the outcome would be good ?
Is doing something bad for good outcome still bad ?
Then doing something good but the outcome became bad is it still doing a good thing ?

Happy New Year !!! 2008 Is Here

Helloz !!! 2008... Good Bye !!! 2007... A New Year has come............ Lets all work towards a better place...

After watching I Am Legend.... I was hit by a quote by "Bob Marley" after he appeared on stage for a performance few days after he was shot....

"The People Who Are Trying To Make The World Worst, Aren't Taking A Day Off, How Can I?"
-Bob Marley

Light Up The Dark...

Few incidents happened to me during my new year programs...

Before the countdown started... A Bunch of teenagers came to our area that we reserved for my friends to see the fire works as they went to the toilet....
But there was 2 person who I can remember...

1st person was a girl who seem to shut her trap and thinks that she is very very "good" with all kind of crap coming out of her mouth...

2nd person was a guy who was very nice and considerate.... they were together as a bunch of friends...

the girl as yapping non stop with her crap because we reserved some place for our friends and they did not got enough space to sit.....

but the guy was considerate enough... so I made space for them....

Too bad the chances of them reading this is very small... but I just want to say....

No Point Being A Bitch... You Can't Win Over People's Heart Or Earn Respect...

Goodwill given will result in good with returned .... 以德服人..and you may earn my respect....

....................................................................................................................................................................

Next thing that happened is after the countdown.... I saw the floor with loads of rubbish....

Why can't Singaporeans CLEAN UP AFTER THEMSELVES ?

Most probable answer that you would hear from them is ... everyone is doing it wat...

Next thing... Walked past SMU's in Sch pub... then this bunch of guys went "Happy New Year!!!" to me and my friends apparently only I responded... then they said this.. "Why Singaporeans Don't Like To Wish Happy New Year" I guess they are quite right... haha

So My New Year Resolution for 2008 is...

MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.... Doing Little Part...

Lead by example.....

Win Hearts With Good Will.... !!!

Finally ....

Save $$ To Buy My SLR CAM !!! WAHAHA....

Who are we really?

We all put on multiple roles in our daily lives, from students to teachers. But who are we really?

My Roles:
Son
Brother
Friend
Student
Mentor

We can't say which is the real me, or even if the real me is listed in it.
But I do feel that there's at least a factor in each of this role I take on that would reflect the real me.
So what are your roles and how are you portraying it?

In life there are a lot of people we must answer to, but most importantly we should answer to ourselves...

Okay... it may sound a bit selfish but no point of you living a lie, for the sake of others.

But the I guess I feel all of the common features of the roles do add up to whom I feel I want to be and I guess is a good thing.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why am I made the villain ????

Okay I showed my anger, sorry to the FEW who really don't deserved it....

First ask yourself this question, what is you purpose of coming to class everyday?
Mine is to LEARN, and learning comes in various forms, including questioning and answering.
Questions are to test YOUR UNDERSTANDING because seriously sometimes when people explain we cant tell what trying to talk about.

Is not that I don't admit I'm wrong is only a handful could prove me wrong.

If you answer is good enough that I can't prove you wrong can I?

If your argument is wrong, nothing much to do for me but to accept it right?

If you able to be confused with your own point, how strong is your point ?

If Im able to confuse/convince or proof you wrong I wonder whose fault it is ?
